Accounts from all corners of Twitter are posting pictures of athletes and pop culture figures with captions of “Gonna tell our kids this was …” while intentionally naming incorrect people not shown in the picture. Of course, the trend quickly spread to the world of sports, where plenty of team and athlete accounts chimed in with their own posts. There has been no shortage of pop culture comparisons. The companies were fined a total of 210 million euros, or more than $237 million, after an independent oversight authority investigated how users were able to opt-out of online tracking. In its investigation, the Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) found that users were only given a button to accept cookies but not one to deny them. It said that “several clicks are required to refuse all cookies” on the websites....

In collaboration with The Honeybee Conservancy, today’s Google Doodle features a game in which users guide a bee as it pollinates flowers while learning fun facts about bees and their impact on the world. The intro to the Earth Day Google Doodle says: “Happy 50th Anniversary of Earth Day! Today we celebrate our planet and one of its smallest, most critical organisms, the bee! “Did you know? Pollination by bees makes two-thirds of the world’s crops possible, as well as 85 percent of the world’s flowering plants....

The doodle shows a portrait of Anthony on a brick wall, while a line of diverse women wait to vote. Anthony was born on February 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts. On November 5, 1872 in Rochester, New York–nearly 50 years before women legally gained the right to vote–Anthony and a group of women defiantly cast a ballot for president. It resulted in her arrest, and a trial the following year....

In an email to Google’s more than 130,000 employees, CEO Sundar Pichai announced that those working at the offices are required to be vaccinated when the campuses fully reopen. The mandate is first being issued at Google’s Mountain View, Calif. headquarters and other offices in the U.S. before it will apply to the Google offices in more than 40 other countries. Pichai stated the mandate will be adjusted for the laws and regulations of each location, and those with medical or other “protected” reasons may receive exceptions....

It remains to be seen whether the coming wave of Black conservative candidates can spur legions of Black voters, the Democratic Party’s most loyal constituency, to vote Republican. But judging by recent races featuring a Black GOP candidate—lieutenant governor races in Virginia and North Carolina, a Kentucky attorney general campaign and the last two U.S. Senate races in Michigan—the party has reason to be hopeful. Exit polls showed these Black Republican candidates drew slightly larger, potentially decisive shares of Black votes compared to the white Republicans running alongside them for other offices in their states....

Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan of the Republican Party of Minnesota confirmed the board member’s resignation in a tweet on Tuesday. Carnahan previously said the party believed the Facebook page was hacked after Jewish Community Action (JCA) brought the post to their attention on Monday. “The offensive picture was posted by a board member who has resigned effective immediately at the our [sic] request,” Carnahan’s tweet said. “We are saddened by the vitriolic post and hope as we move forward that Republicans and Democrats alike will maintain the highest level of integrity, respect, and sensitivity,” Carnahan said in a second tweet....

Appearing on Fox News on Thursday, McDaniel repeated the Trump campaign’s complaint about ballots being counted days after the election, and argued that changes to state election rules were “wrong against Republicans” and the commander-in-chief. But the top GOP official also said that the results of key House and Senate races had been a “total repudiation” of Democrats who had lost their seats or failed to oust Republican lawmakers from the legislative chambers....

Just hours after Roy posted the tongue-in-cheek video to social media, Pelosi made an announcement Friday that she would send over the two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Roy joined dozens of Republican lawmakers and Trump himself in demanding Pelosi move forward with the process despite Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s insistence he will hold the trial without calling witnesses or allowing new documented evidence....

A growing number of Republican House members, along with at least 12 GOP senators, have announced their intentions to object, which will force both chambers of Congress to discuss and vote on the objections. This effort is expected to fail and has been criticized by some leading Republicans. Buck, joined by six other Republican House members, on Sunday released a statement opposing their colleagues’ plans. In an interview with Fox News on Monday, Buck explained his position further....

“This is a constitutional issue. Those metal detectors are there to detain us, and that’s a violation of Article I Section 6 of the Constitution,” Clyde said during a Friday night interview on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle. “We represent 700,000 people in our districts, and the Constitution says that we cannot be impeded when we go to the floor to vote, and those metal detectors are unconstitutional,” he added....

Gonzalez, who voted with 10 other House Republicans to impeach Trump in January, announced in September that he would not seek reelection. The Republican congressman would have faced off against a pro-Trump candidate in the GOP primary in his state and appeared unlikely to win. Speaking to the news outlet, the congressman explained that he saw the January 6 attack against the U.S. Capitol by a mob of pro-Trump supporters as a step too far....

In a statement Friday, Johnson said he plans to give a platform to six people from across the country who claim to have had negative health reactions after receiving the coronavirus jab. Johnson said the conference will take place Monday to allow the individuals to tell their stories and discuss issues that have been “repeatedly ignored” by the medical community, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The Republican senator, who has been a vocal critic of vaccine mandates and has previously advocated for alternative and unproven drug treatments to COVID-19, faced immediate backlash from critics who feel the event will be a platform for spreading misinformation about the safety of vaccines....

Trump’s tweets calling for four freshman congresswomen — New York’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Michigan’s Rashida Talib, Minnesota’s Ilhan Omar and Massachusetts’ Ayanna Pressley — have been at the center of controversy when the president said the women should “go back” to their home countries. However, all but Omar were born in America. Omar became a naturalized U.S. citizen at age 17 after emigrating from Somalia with her family. Kobach, who is running for a senate seat in his home state of Kansas, appeared on Cuomo Prime Time to discuss what Trump meant by his tweets and non-reaction or defending the president’s words by many Republicans....

The Texas law effectively bans all abortions—including in cases of rape and incest—after six weeks. Reproductive rights advocates have pointed out that most women do not even know they are pregnant at six weeks, meaning the law essentially bans all abortions in the state. During a Sunday interview with ABC News’ This Week, Cassidy downplayed the criticism of the Supreme Court’s ruling. The GOP senator said that the decision was not about the constitutionality of the Texas law....

Lankford had planned to object to President-elect Joe Biden’s win but changed his mind following the riot at the Capitol that left five people dead. He sent a letter to “My friends in North Tulsa” on Thursday. The letter said the senator’s actions “caused a firestorm of suspicion among many of my friends, particularly in Black communities around the state.
