On Tuesday, Iowa Republican lawmakers and citizens gathered at the Iowa State Capitol to rally and voice their frustrations regarding potential mandates that may come forth in the state. Iowa State Representatives Sandy Salmon and Jeff Shipley spoke at the event which was hosted by the anti-vaccination group “Informed Choice Iowa.” Salmon believes that all vaccine mandates violate the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. “We have not just COVID-19, but we have totalitarian fever, and that is what we have to eradicate,” said Salmon to Iowa Capital Dispatch....

Trump is planning to hold the early morning event shortly before becoming the first president to refuse to attend the inauguration of his successor in over 150 years and flying to his home in Florida instead. While invitations to the send-off at nearby Joint Base Andrews have been sent out, both McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will snub the outgoing president to attend a morning Catholic mass with President-elect Joe Biden before he is inaugurated, according to Axios....

Previously, the CDC recommended that individuals be tested for COVID-19 even if they were not exhibiting symptoms. On Monday, the CDC altered its guidelines to suggest that asymptomatic people not be tested, even after contact with a person who has contracted the virus. “You do not necessarily need a test unless you are a vulnerable individual or your health care provider or state or local public health officials recommend you take one,” reads the CDC website....

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell offered a glimpse of the GOP plan on Monday, saying on the Senate floor that it will focus on “kids, jobs and health care.” To that end, Republicans plan to allocate $105 billion for educators, resources for coronavirus vaccine and therapeutic development, support for hospitals and protections for seniors from premium spikes. “This majority will be laying down another historic proposal very soon,” McConnell said....
