The nomination was quickly withdrawn after reports linked Kerik to multiple alleged scandals. A spokesperson for Giuliani told NEWSWEEK: “The mayor has said repeatedly it was a mistake to recommend Mr. Kerik [for Homeland Security secretary]. He cooperated fully with the grand jury.” Kerik pleaded guilty last July to minor corruption charges.
