God of War Ragnarok will pick up the story between Kratos and his son, Atreus, when it launches later this year. God of War Ragnarok is currently slated to release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 9.
Sony promises that the game will offer a look into the changing dynamic between the father and son as Atreus works hard to learn more about the prophecy of “Loki,” while Kratos struggles to let go of his past and be a good father to his son. Sony has undoubtedly set the stage for an intriguing story, which is one reason why so many are excited about the game going gold and preparing for its release these past couple of weeks.
And, with the release date looming ever closer, many are interested in seeing how Sony Santa Monica further evolves this violent character. With the release of God of War in 2018, Sony completely changed how fans of the series saw Kratos. Suddenly, the ripped god-killer was more than just a symbol of violence for the world. Instead, he became a father—a father who was oftentimes too hard on the son that he found himself shepherding.
But it was this huge transition that opened the door for God of War’s success. The game quickly went on to sell over 3 million copies in just three days, making it the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive at the time. And, that success has only carried on toward the upcoming release of God of War Ragnarok.
But, before you can get ready for the newest entry in Kratos’ story, you’re going to want to make sure you’ve seen that ending cutscene, which sets up the second game quite a bit.
There’s a lot of story and lore that fans will need to unpack in the sequel, and being prepared will help make sure you’re ready when God of War Ragnarok is released on November 9.
