The three-disc package offers detailed graphics, realistic sound effects and comprehensive control of the golf swing. You can play as a digitized Arnold Palmer on three real courses, with simulated wind, even a rolling mist during morning tee times. There’s also LAN or modem play, so even executives can waste time at work. Also scoring well is PGA Tour 96, byElectronic Arts ($45). There aren’t as many ways to control your swing, but the graphics are just as good and tournament play pits you against the real Tour pros. Another strong contender is Picture Perfect Golf, by Enteractive. The $179 version includes a Virtual Reality System–an external club and base unit that crudely measures your swing and launches the ball on your screen. Better there than the window…
