Darryl Dever, 64, and a friend, a doctor also from Ohio, were playing a round at Treetops Resort when his ball went into the woods near the second hole. When looking for his ball, Dever was attacked by bees that came out of the ground and stung him around his head and neck.

Dever wasn’t allergic to bees, but the pain from the stings caused him to have troubling breathing, Michigan State Police Sgt. Mark Tamlyn said.
