The Stadia Connect Gamescom press conference is expected to begin August 19 at 1 p.m. EDT. While an approximate runtime for the proceedings has not been announced, we don’t imagine it being longer than one hour.
Where to watch the Gamescom Stadia Connect
The primary place to watch the Gamescom Stadia Connect is on the official Stadia YouTube channel. There aren’t alternate streams on Mixer or Twitch, but mainstream sites like IGN and Gamespot will likely host the event there as well. The stream is embedded above.
What to expect from the Stadia Gamescom Press Conference
Because Stadia and Stadia Connect are so new to the industry, it’s a bit difficult to truly pin down a list of predictions for what to expect. Officially, Google has teased that this particular presentation is “all about games.” That means fans will get to see brand-new trailers and behind-the-scenes footage from the service’s various creative partners.
During prior Connect streams, Google made a big deal about having dozens of developers on board to support the company’s all-streaming vision. Many of those partners, however, have yet to announce any sort of software presence for the platform. Studios like Rockstar Games, EA and Capcom are supposedly interested, but where are they? Maybe this Gamescom stream is where those loose ends get tied up.
The most curious supporter on that list is EA, who has its own streaming aspirations and its Origin Access on demand catalog service. Will Electronic Arts truly help out Google if it means possibly cannibalizing its own servicse? If at all, we expect EA’s presence on Stadia to be fairly small. That being said, Ubisoft has a similar content offering and remains one of Stadia’s biggest believers.
