The White House is now considering candidates from the military and Congress. One option is to elevate Acting CIA Director Adm. William Studeman. Other contenders: National Security Agency chief Rear Adm. John McConnell, retired Air Force Gen. Lee Buffer and Rep. Norm Dieks.
