The sci-Fi show is set 100 years in the future and it follows lunar cargo pilot Bella Sway (Emma McDonald) who becomes marooned with a utopian community on the moon, the titular Moonhaven, after being accused of a crime, only to find herself drawn into a conspiracy that could risk all life on Earth.
In order to stop the community, including Joe Manganiello’s Tomm Schultz, from destroying humanity as we know it, and to do so she must team up with detective Paul Sarno (Dominic Monaghan).
The show comes to a conclusion on Thursday, August 8 so fans will no doubt be wondering if it will be returning for a second season.
Has ‘Moonhaven’ Been Renewed for a Second Season?
The good news for fans is that Moonhaven has already been renewed for a second season that will consist of six episodes, as AMC gave it an early renewal order on July 28.
Moonhaven is said to be one of AMC+’s most successful shows, with the network revealing in its renewal announcement that the show was the number one most watched AMC+ exclusive series and one of the most watched new series on the streaming platform, coming second only to Dark Winds.
It comes as no surprise, then, that Moonhaven was renewed for a second season.
Dan McDermott, president of entertainment for AMC Studios and AMC Networks said in a press statement: “This is such an engaging and entertaining series, brilliantly conceived and run by Peter [Ocko, Moonhaven showrunner].
“The story is suspenseful, provocative and prescient, and features a phenomenal cast that delivers mesmerizing performances.
“What Peter and the team are crafting for season two is next level, and the fans will be thrilled.”
Ocko also said of the renewal order: “I couldn’t be more excited to return to the Moon and continue our story with this amazing cast and crew.
“AMC+ has been a wonderful partner in bringing our world to life, and we can’t wait to continue the journey.”
When the show’s renewal was announced Monaghan took to Instagram to share a picture of the news, and he wrote in the caption: “Off to the moon we go again!”
Emma McDonald was equally as excited, sharing the same announcement on Instagram as her co-star and writing: “ROUND 2!!! HOOORRAAAYY we’ve been renewed for a second season and I’m OVER THE MOON [sic].”
Alongside McDonald, Monaghan and Manganiello, the show also stars Amara Karan, Ayelet Zurer, Kadeem Hardison and Yazzmin Newell.
