The all-white uniform with rainbow accents are an homage to Hawaii’s old likeness and nickname, the Rainbow Warriors. The football team used this name from 1974 to 2000, when it dropped it and went with just Warriors. Most of Hawaii’s teams still go by the Rainbow Warriors (or Wahine for women’s teams). The school scrapped a plan to do away with the Rainbow part several years ago.
