While Western media have detailed Gorbachev’s life–school days in Privolnoye, his whirlwind courtship of the headstrong Raisa–such personal details have traditionally been off limits to the Soviet press. Even Komsomolskaya Pravda could not interview Mrs. Gorbacheva directly; she was protected by a ring of KGB guards. But if the Soviet media continue to report so aggressively, the Kremlin leader may actually have to go see his mom.
