According to AccuWeather, there is currently a storm system located near the Atlantic Coast of the U.S. that is expected to bring intense weather conditions to New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and other East Coast states.
“The storm has been categorized as a nor’easter since it will be spreading northeasterly winds along the coast and is the first such storm of the season to impact the region,” AccuWeather reported.
On Monday morning, the National Weather Service in New York issued a flash flood watch and said that a “costal storm will bring a prolonged period of rain, heavy at times, as well as the potential for localized flash flooding, strong winds, coastal flooding, and beach erosion.”
According to the National Weather Service in New York, the storm system is expected to bring two to four inches of rainfall in different areas, as well as wind gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour.
“Uncertainty remains with regards to track and intensity of the storm along with location of heaviest rain, magnitude of wind gusts, and extent of coastal flooding,” the National Weather Service in New York said.
In response to the possible flash flooding, the New York City Emergency Management division issued a travel advisory starting on Monday and lasting until Tuesday afternoon.
“NWSNewYorkNY has issued a Flash Flood Watch for New York City beginning at 8 p.m. Monday, October 25, through 5 p.m. Tuesday, October 26,” they said in a tweet.
“This event may cause flooding in the city, including on highways, streets, underpasses, as well as other poor drainage or low-lying spots,” said NYC Emergency Management Incoming Acting Commissioner Andrew D’Amora. “New Yorkers should give themselves additional travel time and take the appropriate precautions if they must move about the city during the storm.”
Similar weather warnings were issued in Boston, as well as parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
“[Significant Coastal Storm Potential] There is the potential for a slow-moving significant coastal storm late Mon. night through Wed. Exact details are uncertain, but potential impacts include heavy rain/flooding, damaging wind gusts, and minor coastal flooding/beach erosion,” the National Weather Service in Boston wrote in a tweet on Sunday night.
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey said in an update on Monday that the storm system is expected to bring “heavy rain,” “severe thunderstorms,” and the potential for coastal flooding.
