Wyatt had a girlfriend, Haley Stevens, until he left to film the show. To Brown, he explained that when he got on the plane to Los Angeles to start filming The Bachelorette—which he admittedly signed on to promote his music career—he said a “goodbye in his heart” to Stevens. Stevens, however, never got the message. They spent the night together before he left and exchanged “I Love Yous.”
When Stevens took their past relationship to the media, Brown confronted Wyatt and broke the engagement. She appeared on the Bachelorette finale as a single woman. Brown seems to be one of the most-loved Bachelorettes from the positive responses she’s received to her decisions and behavior, and much of Bachelor Nation is sticking with her through dumping Wyatt, too.
Twitter users were vocal about Wyatt’s post-show dismissal and added drama in the form of both online commentary and jokes about the situation. If you search “Bachelorette Jed” on Twitter, you’ll be flooded with memes, from Wyatt being chosen over other fan favorites, to his dog food jingle and eventually, his relationship with Stevens.
It seems, from Twitter reactions, the general Bachelor Nation consensus on Wyatt’s win is a digital eye roll. From there, though, fans have gone lighter with criticism on Brown’s behalf, seemingly because she has already ended the relationship. Though fans may not support her final decision, there’s no need to try and convince her she made the wrong decision, because she seems to know that. Brown has already asked her runner up, Tyler C, on a date, to which he accepted.
While Tyler C has all nearly every fan’s support, Wyatt may need to work to rebuild his public opinion. His plan for musical success may have backfired, too, as most fans are strongly against Wyatt after his behavior.
Beyond Wyatt’s past relationship, Bachelor Nation also explained Wyatt didn’t have the correct qualities to be in a relationship with Brown. Some commented on his lack of sympathy when Brown got seasick, and other noted that neither of the lovebird’s families liked the other, something that could become a major problem down the road.
