“A couple of days ago Dylan and I were a part of one of my worst nightmares,” de Jager said tearfully in the video, which was published on her YouTube page on Sunday. “We were robbed at gunpoint at our own home. And even though I can’t tell you too much because there’s still a very ongoing investigation, I do want to let you know that I’m OK. I may not look like I’m OK right now, but I’m OK.”

The first report of the home invasion came from a Dutch news source—RTL Boulevard—on August 8. De Jager lives in Uden, in the Netherlands. Her home there was broken into by three assailants, the publication reported. The YouTuber first confirmed the crime on her Twitter feed on August 8 and asked for time to herself.

While de Jager did claim in the Sunday video to be doing all right following the terrifying invasion, she also noted in the video’s caption that it could take “months to mentally recover from this.”

In the actual video, the 26-year-old makeup guru explained how she’s beginning to heal from the incident, without going into too much detail because of the active police investigation.

Even setting aside the restrictions that come with an investigation, de Jager noted that talking too much about the event would be detrimental to her mental health. “Maybe one day I’ll be able to tell you everything, but right now, it’s impossible,” she said, “for my mental state, but also for the law because we’re trying to do everything to make this right.”

De Jager did acknowledge, though, that the experience has shifted her outlook on life and what’s important. “Having one of those worst nightmares come true is very surreal, but it also puts a lot of things in perspective,” she noted. “Now, more than ever, you realize that family is everything. And being in good health is even more important.”

Eventually, the 15-minute video takes a turn into what de Jagger does best—it becomes a makeup tutorial. For the artist, makeup is a way of tuning out the world, she explained. She said that no one can take away her love of beauty, before designing a full-face makeup look based on a color-changing Barbie doll. “They say Barbies have no feelings, and I am in the mood for no feelings, so let’s go,” she said.

During the makeup design, de Jager also revealed that her best friend was recently diagnosed with breast cancer; she then questioned when life will slow down. “I’m not gonna lie, it is so hard,” de Jager said. “It is gonna take a lot of time for Dylan and myself and our family and friends to grow from [the robbery] and keep going on with life.”
