This aggressive commentary is both ignorant and cynical. Her story revolves around her time spent in her personal office, the location of which is a matter of public record. That she was scared for her life is a subjective claim and one she should dwell on for as long as she needs. However, the Congresswoman did make other dubious claims about that day, ones which do require investigation. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez accused her fellow elected officials of trying to have her killed....

In a Facebook video that spanned close to seven minutes on Sunday, GOP Chairman John Bennett revealed that he was the individual who wrote the controversial social media post uploaded to the Oklahoma Republican Party page on Friday that included a photo of a yellow Star of David with the word “Unvaccinated” on it. The Facebook post on Friday, which has been criticized by other Republicans in Oklahoma, compared COVID vaccine mandates to the emblems that Jewish people were forced to wear in Nazi Germany during the Holocaust....

An estimated 70 percent of America’s active duty service members are vaccinated against COVID-19, the minimum threshold needed for herd immunity. Officials are unlikely to put a mandate in place until the vaccine receives full FDA approval, and they’re still in the mindset of strongly encouraging service members to get vaccinated. Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, said on Twitter that he’s heard from several service members and their relatives that they’re firmly against a vaccine requirement....

Newell was pronounced dead at 6:43 a.m. Friday morning in his Henderson home. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound as federal agents approached to arrest him, the U.S. Attorney’s Office reported. The judge took a leave from the bench following a July 24 police raid on his home, truck and judicial office. The raid occurred after a child he took on a Hooper’s Island hunting trip accused him of hiding a camera in the bathroom of Newell’s hunting lodge, The Baltimore Sun reported....

Katko, a Republican who represents New York’s 24th congressional district, previously struck a deal on a bipartisan commission to investigate the events of January 6, but the proposal failed in the Senate. He issued a statement on Monday strongly criticizing Pelosi’s plan for a House select committee. Her resolution would establish a 13-person panel, with Pelosi appointing eight members. Katko said in a statement: " I led the charge to create a January 6th commission that would be external, independent, bipartisan, and equitable in membership and subpoena power....

Hogan wrote that the president “bungled” the U.S.’ testing efforts early on in the novel coronavirus pandemic, as the country saw delays in its capacity for mass testing “for almost two months.” “Meanwhile, instead of listening to his own public health experts, the president was talking and tweeting like a man more concerned about boosting the stock market or his reelection plans,” Hogan stated, citing comments Trump made in late-February where he blamed Democrats for a stock market plunge....

Manafort, who was jailed for tax and bank fraud charges in 2019, said that not only will the Democratic Party face a “tsunami wave” of congressional and Senate losses in November, but the GOP could further flip a number of legislative chambers. The GOP currently already dominates the nation’s state legislatures, fully controlling 30, compared to the Democrats’ 17, with three states having split control. According to analysis from the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, at least four state chambers are considered “toss-ups” and could go either way in November, three of which are held by Democrats....

Biggs, who chairs the conservative House Freedom Caucus, wrote a letter to Barr calling for the investigation on Friday. The letter states that “shocking information” reveals ties between terrorist groups and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) involved in both the investigation of alleged U.S. war crimes and a separate ICC investigation into alleged Israeli war crimes. “The Netherlands-based ICC has always been a travesty, but its recent cases against the United States and Israel are especially absurd,” Biggs said in a statement....

Higgins claimed without evidence that the election had been “compromised” in a video he reportedly posted to Facebook late Thursday but was later removed. The Louisiana lawmaker is also said to have challenged those who left negative comments about the video to confront him physically, according to a report from The New Orleans Advocate. “Donald J. Trump, President Trump, has been an anointed blessing to our nation,” Higgins said in the video....

“The insurrection of January 6 in the nation’s Capitol and its aftermath continue to reveal how the words and actions of individuals and groups can safeguard or undermine democracy,” said Anne Harris, Grinnell’s president, in a Wednesday statement. “The acts of those who supported or otherwise gave credence to a baseless challenge to an election that had been certified as free and fair multiple times by multiple processes have threatened the electoral process and the peaceful transfer of power,” Harris added....

Boebert, a freshman congresswoman from Colorado, recently referred to Omar as a member of the “Jihad Squad” during a House discussion on whether or not to censure Representative Paul Gosar. After that remark, a video surfaced in which Boebert mentioned once being in an elevator with Omar and joking about her potentially having a bomb in her backpack. The comments have received condemnation, with some members of her own party joining the criticism....

Neither does the law. Such sites are protected by a federal law that immunizes Web hosts from liability for the musings of their users—as long as the hosts themselves don’t modify content. While I meet plenty of friendly, delightful people, there’s enough cruel truth in the stereotype to keep it slouching into my mind. Beauty, meaning and pleasure don’t appear to be this crowd’s ambrosia....

People who don’t know they are infected are a major reason why COVID-19 is still spreading. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 30% of all people who test positive for COVID-19 have no symptoms. These asymptomatic people may be responsible for unknowingly spreading the disease. The new test, from Australian company Ellume, received a large boost from the Biden Administration this week. Perhaps Craig’s most prominent supporter in Idaho, Gov. C. L. (Butch) Otter, was also caught off guard by the senator’s announcement. Otter, who had spoken in defense of Craig even after Craig announced his intent to resign this summer, had prepared a list of possible replacements.
